The Knight, the Wig, the Wind, and God

It was as if Knight had been predestined to enter into Alissa’s universe at that very moment. All the coordinates of time, energy, space, biomechanics, science, and paranormal occurrences, intersected. This intersection occurred with such pinpoint precision, that it must have been devised and brought to fruition by a supreme supernatural life-force.

Knight and Alissa, strangers at the time, were both rushing for the train. From the concourse above Knight and Alissa looked down and saw commuters on the platform frenetically moving toward the train, like ants swarming an elongated leftover piece of candy. They knew that it was only a matter of seconds before the bell chimed and the train doors closed. So, they flew down the escalators. Alissa was in front, with her scarf, coat, and flowing hair, tailing backwards as a strong breeze rushed through the train station. Knight was several steps behind, but his gangly legs helped him to gain ground on her, fast.

First Alissa, then Knight, hopped onto the platform, which was now clear of commuters. The train’s open doorway was only a few strides away. Just before Alissa got to the door the “Doors Closing” recording blared out from the train speakers. Alissa, still running, was just within a stride of getting through the narrowing doorway. At that exact moment, a gust of wind blew through the station, and Alissa’s flowing hair took…
